• Project Description

  Building Description: While continuing to function as Max J. Smith and Associates, Max Smith entered into a partnership with two Wyoming architects, named Dunlap, Smith, and Kimmi (DSK). Together, these architects created the Teton Pines development, which “centered on a new Arnold Palmer designed golf course. It also included a clubhouse and tennis facility surrounded by hotel/lodge facilities with over three hundred home sites – the majority of which were designed by DSK.”¹ About the project, Max Smith noted, “The main driver of this project was fitting the building into this incredibly sensitive site. The blending in of a physical building, its element, shape, color into the site was a constant challenge. Several residential types were designed and developed, which included provisions and variations within each. Most designs placed the main living spaces on the upper level in order to maximize the view and get out of the deep snow.  The basic architectural vernacular was carried through to the more public buildings. On the outer-most ring of the site (characterized by more trees), the covenants allowed for more varied designs.”²
