Criteria for Selection
All architects that could be identified as having designed buildings between 1847 and 1949 are included. All of the buildings are in Utah, but the architects may or may not have been residents of the state. For example, the Joseph Smith Memorial Building (former Hotel Utah) was designed by the Los Angeles firm of Parkinson & Bergstrom, which also designed the Kearns Building on Main Street in Salt Lake City.
The buildings that served the commercial, governmental, and institutional lives of Utah’s citizens were selected along with significant religious buildings and some single-family residences, especially by those architects who went on to design other important structures.
